The Expanse Season 2 Episode 7 There’s no denying that this week’s The Expanse was a set-up episode, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Like a massive ship having done its deceleration burn last week, “The Seventh Man” fires up the maneuvering thrusters, getting ready to explore the escalating power plays and teasing us with glimpses of a creature only one person that we know of has seen. The Expanse has always been carefully paced, but with the building tension on Tycho and the return of Sergeant Draper, the edge is far from dull....

The Expanse Season 3 Episode 11 Some of the most remarkable moments in The Expanse happen when the series draws attention to how wrong all the other space dramas are about the physics of interplanetary travel. Although the show’s sense of realism doesn’t extend to the significantly advanced technology of the protomolecule, Newton’s laws of motion are in full effect, and the dramatic results are breathtaking. “Fallen World” succeeds in stepping back to take in the scope of the danger, including the effects of zero g on injuries, before proceeding with the final consequences leading into the finale....

While the words “mafia” and “cosa nostra” are never used in the film, many of the scenarios reflect specific points in the mob’s story. Some of these are strictly from Puzo’s imagination for the novel, like the horse’s head in a Hollywood producer’s bed scene. There is no evidence in gangland history to a corresponding incident like that. However, one of the most pivotal scenes in The Godfather is very similar to the incident which inspired it: The scene where Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) executes Virgil “The Turk” Sollozzo (Al Lettieri) and police captain Mark McCluskey (Sterling Hayden) at Louis’ Italian American Restaurant in the Bronx....

The Irishman closes on a provocative shot. After a lifetime of living in the shadows, Robert De Niro’s Frank Sheeran is desperate for the light outside his door, and the community he hopes it invites in. Yet once his priest walks through it, leaving for holidays that will once again pass unmarked for the man who paints houses, Frank knows there is no one on the other side. Neither of his daughters want anything to do with him, and the world he’s built has forgotten him....

Despite what those looking for clear answers after that ending might hope, The Little Things is not based on any specific true story or serial killer investigation. It was a 1993 screenplay penned by writer-director John Lee Hancock. However, there are similarities to several well known cases. The film even mentions the Night Stalker, aka Richard Ramirez, all while stopping short of naming names or committing to a specific lethal predator in its own yarn....

It’s a pity then that The Nun is pretty much a failure, especially since it comes armed with regular Conjuring Universe screenwriter Gary Dauberman (who has also adapted both It and its upcoming second chapter) and two solid actors in Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Story) and Demian Bichir (Alien: Covenant). Director Corin Hardy (The Hallow) also gets the atmosphere and setting right: taking place at a remote, isolated Romanian abbey in 1952, the film puffs out enough billowing fog to fill up a dozen Hammer movies and the abbey itself is a unnerving maze of twisting corridors and rooms filled with rotting relics....

The Predator franchise has had its ups and downs through the years, but it has always offered a unique take on the monster genre. The series is an unusual blend of the horror, action, and thriller genres and it’s part of the reason that the Predator has remained such a popular monster since his debut in John McTiernan’s 1987 classic. Even when the franchise was dormant in cinemas, it still saw a healthy life in comics and video games....

At the end of episode 7 of The Rings of Power, we saw an image that will be chilling to fans of either Peter Jackson’s movies or Tolkien’s legendarium: a Balrog stirring under the Dwarf mines of Khazad-dûm. But what exactly is this fiery monster and how does it relate to the rest of Tolkien’s world? In Tolkien’s mythology, Balrogs are corrupted Maiar. The Maiar are spirits created by Ilúvatar (God) to help the Valar (also spirits, but more powerful, a bit similar to pagan gods and goddesses) to shape the world....

After saving the Stranger (Daniel Weyman) from the mysterious hooded sisters in The Rings of Power season finale, the young Harfoot Nori (Markella Kavenagh) decides to leave her clan and journey with the Stranger to Rhûn. Even though they only have the Stranger’s constellation of stars and sense of smell to guide them, they set out to the mysterious land to learn more about who he is and his destiny in Middle-earth....

The Rising is filled with all the twists and turns viewers have come to expect from a murder mystery drama. Adapted from Belgian crime thriller Beau Séjour, The Rising is set in small town in the British countryside, with sweeping landscapes and a thriving motocross community. The extra supernatural twist in this particular mystery is that its central character Neve Kelly (Clara Rugaard) is dead from the start, but for some reason remains on earth....

Set in the twilight of the Eisenhower years, The Vast of Night is the debut film from director Andrew Patterson, which is all the more impressive since it so inhabits its time and place in American life with authentic nostalgia. At the tail end of what Don McLean romanticized in “American Pie,” the late ‘50s and early ‘60s were a moment of coming of age for the generation of baby boomers born after World War II....

When The Velvet Underground were playing Los Angeles in 1966 as part of Andy Warhol’s art collective, The Exploding Plastic Inevitable, they ran afoul Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. “This comes from them, this doesn’t come from me,” Todd Haynes tells Den of Geek. “But this is entirely the history, this is well documented.” The feud might not make sense on the surface. Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention had more in common with the Velvet Underground than other California bands....

From Negan’s perspective, however, there’s only one person powerful enough to be his nemesis: himself. The reason the movies have been canned is because Andrew Lincoln is instead returning in his own six-episode miniseries, along with Danai Gurira, to wrap up Rick and Michonne’s story after their departures from the main show. The duo made a surprise appearance at the panel with Walking Dead creative chief Scott Gimple to make the announcement. The show, which doesn’t have a title yet, will premiere sometime in 2023, joining other The Walking Dead spinoff series, such as Isle of the Dead, which will star Jeffrey Dean Moran and Lauren Cohan as Negan and Maggie respectively, and an untitled Daryl Dixon sequel series set to star Norman Reedus....

The Walking Dead Season 11 Episode 13 When it comes to guest stars, someone over at The Walking Dead is a big fan of The Terminator franchise of movies. In Season 10’s bonus episode, “One More,” the venerable T-1000 himself, Robert Patrick, shows up. Patrick’s turn as the intimidating, dangerous, psychologically-damaged man known as Mays (and his brother Mays) was one of the highlights of the bonus episodes. It’s unsurprising that Patrick, who has become a sci-fi icon, would show up and make a big impression in 25 minutes of screen time....

Publicly saying what one means being a vanishing habit in an election month, there was something refreshingly sincere about The War Of The Worlds’ finale. This story has been told with a zealot’s insistence on its lessons. Subtlety and prevarication haven’t been its modes; its point has been made through emphasis and repetition. It’s a decent point to make: hubris, jingoism and unquestioning faith are roads to nowhere; science is where the answers lie....

Perhaps even those who haven’t read The Witcher novels by Andrzej Sapkowski or played the CD Projekt video games can tell that it has something to do with Ciri. Nilfgaard invaded Cintra for a reason beyond a simple land grab, and Yennefer scolds Fringilla, the empire’s head sorceress, saying, “Your precious leader is after something; you’re a pawn to get to it.” It’s no coincidence that the trailer shows Ciri at that point before switching to Yennefer’s point of view....

Those who have read the Andrzej Sapkowski books know exactly where all this is headed, of course, but even those new to The Witcher universe will remember that in season 1, it was revealed that Ciri was promised to Geralt by the Law of Surprise, a custom that repays a life debt with a prize possessed but yet unknown. When a flashback revealed the Cintran queen’s pregnancy, her child’s fate was sealed....
